About Jinli Ancient Street

Nestled in the heart of Chengdu, Jinli Ancient Street offers a captivating journey into China's storied past. This 550-meter-long street, restored in 2004, pays homage to its origins during the Shu Kingdom (221-263 AD), once celebrated as the "First Street of the Shu Kingdom." Flanked by structures reflecting Qing Dynasty (1644-1911) architectural styles, Jinli's green flagstone-paved lanes are adorned with wooden steles and brick walls, exuding an ancient allure. The meticulous design seamlessly blends historical authenticity with modern functionality, creating an immersive environment for visitors.

Culinary enthusiasts will find Jinli a haven for Sichuan's famed gastronomy. The street is lined with vendors and eateries offering an array of local delicacies, from spicy Dandan noodles and savory Zhong dumplings to sweet treats like tangyuan (glutinous rice balls). The intoxicating aromas and vibrant displays provide a feast for the senses, inviting guests to savor the rich flavors of the region.

Beyond its culinary delights, Jinli Ancient Street is a vibrant center for traditional arts and crafts. Artisans showcase skills passed down through generations, offering handcrafted items such as Shu embroidery, intricate lacquerware, and delicate paper-cuttings. These unique souvenirs serve as tangible memories of Chengdu's rich cultural heritage.

The street comes alive with dynamic performances that encapsulate Sichuan's artistic traditions. Visitors can witness the mesmerizing "face-changing" acts of Sichuan Opera, where performers swiftly alter masks in a display of theatrical skill. Shadow puppetry and hand puppet shows further enrich the cultural tapestry, providing entertainment that resonates with audiences of all ages.

Strategically located adjacent to the Wuhou Shrine, a temple dedicated to the revered figures of the Three Kingdoms period, Jinli Ancient Street offers a comprehensive cultural experience. The synergy between the shrine and the street allows visitors to delve deep into historical narratives while enjoying the lively ambiance of the marketplace.

Jinli Ancient Street is accessible via multiple modes of transportation. Visitors can take Chengdu Metro Line 3 to Gaoshengqiao Station, followed by a short walk to the street. Alternatively, several bus routes, including numbers 1, 57, and 82, service the area. For those preferring taxis, the street is a brief ride from the city center.
